Interview Advice
We make sure all of our candidates are well briefed, every sales vacancy is different and we always tailor our advice to the individual person or role. Despite this bespoke approach some things never change, here are a few pointers that always apply;
Be smart
Now smartness is subjective, we don’t recommend a dinner jacket and bow tie but you need to look the part. Remember first impressions count.
Good eye contact/firm handshake
It’s a little known fact that shifty candidates don’t get sales jobs. Oh and you’ll need a firm handshake too.
Research
We think research is underrated. The internet is a wonderful resource but it can also be a curse. It’s not enough these days to have a quick scan over the company website. Research the market, competitors, even the person you are meeting and it may just give you the edge.
Know your CV
Sounds simple right? Many candidates fall down when questioned about their CV. You wrote it, it’s your career, you should know it inside out. Make sure you know your dates, what you did, why you moved and always bring your own copy to refer to.
Ask good questions
Every good salesperson should have a decent questioning technique. Demonstrate this in the interview; it’s important that you find out everything about the role. You should also be able to start matching your own skill set to what your interviewer is looking for, just like a sale!
Smile! :)
